Sega May Release the Next Yakuza Game by the End of the Current Fiscal Year

The new Yakuza game on PS4 with Kasuga Ichiban could launch before March 2020.

Sega Sammy Holdings published its financial report, detailing the company’s results during the last fiscal year. In the report’s appendix, the company revealed that the next main game in the Yakuza series might be launching in the current fiscal year. As in, before the end of March 2020. While not a guarantee, this is the first time a release date estimate for the next Yakuza game has been communicated by Sega.

The next main Yakuza game won’t be featuring Kiryu Kazuma, but a new protagonist named Kasuga Ichiban. Sega revealed a few weeks ago that the game will launch on PS4. An audition was also launched to find an actress for one of the main female characters. More information on the game along with the selected actress will be revealed in July. Kasuga Ichiban is also the protagonist of the mobage Yakuza Online.

Meanwhile, Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be launching on PC in May. Judgment, a spinoff of the Yakuza series, is also launching exclusively on PS4 on June 25. The game is already available in Japan, though it got temporarily removed from the Japanese market for a few weeks because one of the actors, Pierre Taki, was caught into a drug scandal. The game was later commercialized again with his character replaced. Sega also already confirmed that Judgment has no sequels in the works.
