I don't know how to tell you this. And I don't even know how to take this all in myself -- especially as I stare at my plastic Stratocaster guitar across the room. Screw it, I'll just come out with it and tell you that the next title from Harmonix is a Rock Band game... and it doesn't feature any instruments. Say hello to Rock Band Blitz.

I know, I know. It didn't make any sense to me neither. I have to say though, after seeing it in action during it's debut on G4TV, I did manage to breath a sigh of relief as it does retain a lot of it's RB roots, albeit at a frantic pace. The game features "multi-track arcade gameplay" which has you -- the player -- switching between every instrument featured in the song as you make your way through the track. One highlight to point out is that Blitz will be a downloadable title -- for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live --  and it will include 20 new tracks (never featured in Rock Band game previously) and those songs will be compatible with your existing Rock Band 3 game.

If you're fortunate enough to go to PAX East this weekend, you'll be able to jump in and try it for yourself at the Harmonix booth where the game will be having its first public playable appearance. To get a better idea of what the game looks like check out its debut on G4TV's X-Play below.
