Aspyr Media and Digital Continue, which was founded by Joe Tringali, who was the Co-Founder of 5TH Cell, a studio known for games such as Scribblenauts, Lock’s Quest and Drawn to Life, announced Next Up Hero today for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Next Up Hero is an arcade style rogue-like beat 'em up where players take turns fighting enemies in community game sessions one hero at a time. There are nine heroes for players to choose from, and they all have their own weapons, which includes swords, rocket launchers, laser turrets, bongo drums, and boomerangs that suit different playstyles.

When a player dies, they leave behind an Echo of their hero on the battlefield. The next player in line is able to resurrect said Echo as an AI companion to assist them in battle. This system allow players to keep fighting and dying until they have a large army of Echoes by their side that can use to defeat monsters that are getting increasingly more powerful.

Digital Continue plans on taking tons of community feedback during development. That is why they launched an exclusive Closed Beta at RTX Austin today, and plan on bringing the game to Early Access on Steam later this year.

You can check out some screenshots of the title and the three new game trailers below. Next Up Hero will launch on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in early 2018.
