In a collaboration between Warner Bro. Japan and prolific game studio Level-5, a film set in the universe of Ni no Kuni will be coming to Japan this summer. The story seems to be separate from that of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. Fans can expect the animated movie to premiere sometime in Japan this summer.

As of right now, we've only been given some small details about the plot and its characters. Like the games before it, the main cast of characters will enter a fantasy world separate from their own. A high school student named Yuu and his two close friends Kotona and Haru will make the "ultimate choice" while traveling back and forth between their world and this other world.

If you're familiar with the Ni no Kuni titles, there's typically some parallels between worlds that connect them in some way, shape, or form. When both worlds' Kotona are put in danger, the three will have to work together to solve their issue.

The main protagonist, Yuu, will be voiced by Kento Yamazaki who has starred in live-action adaptations of Death Note, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Yo-Kai Watch. The founder of Level-5, President Akihiro Hino, will be helming the film's screenplay. Additionally, the animation will be done by OLM who have worked on Pokémon, Yo-Kai Watch, and more. Joe Hisaishi, the man behind a multitude of iconic Studio Ghibli music (Spirited Away, Ponyo, Howl's Moving Castle, etc) will be composing the music in the film, he also composed the music in the first two Ni no Kuni titles.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is considered by many to be one of the best JRPGs of the last console generation, while Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is an equally lovable game that's actually wildly different from the first entry in terms of gameplay. The first title didn't launch in North America until early 2013, while the second game made its way to PS4 and PC in March of 2018.
