NieR: Automata, the strange android and robot-filled JRPG from Platinum Games has crossed an enormous milestone. The 2017 title has officially sold over 5 million units, making it the best-selling game from developer Platinum Games ever.

The announcement that NieR: Automata crossed 5 million sales came via the game's Twitter account. The short post also clarifies that this count is made up from the game's "global shipment and download sales."

In all, it's not too surprising that the game has shipped a heaping ton of copies. NieR: Automata originally launched on PS4 and PC, where it became a cult hit. The game made its way over to the Xbox One a year later in 2018. In 2019 a game of the year version of the title, named NieR: Automata Game of the YoRHa Edition launched as well. This version of the game comes with all its DLC and every bit of extra content a player could want. Finally, the game was added to Xbox Game Pass earlier this year. Suffice to say, there are plenty of options for picking up one of 2017's most popular titles.

The NieR franchise isn't done yet either. The series' next entry will be a remaster of 2010's NieR Replicant. Officially titled NieR Replicant Ver 1.22, the last time we saw this game was at Geoff Keighley's Game Awards when a new trailer featuring gameplay was revealed. The game is set to release next April, although next-gen versions haven't been announced yet. So far, NieR Replicant Ver 1.22 will only be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
