Square Enix has announced that the action RPG series "NieR" has shipped 7 million copies of "NieR: Automata" and 1.5 million copies of "NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139.." worldwide. The number includes cumulative global shipments and digital downloads for both consoles and PC.

Developed by Platinum Games, NieR: Automata is set on an alternate Earth where mankind is fleeing to the moon to escape the onslaught of the machine lifeforms, said to be created by aliens, and the only salvation left are human-crafted androids who will engage the machines and recapture the lost planet. The title has achieved a milestone of 5 million units sold in December 2020, meaning it has shipped 2 additional million units in just about 2 years. Even after five years, the popularity of the game is still thriving, even receiving a Nintendo Switch port earlier this year. Moreover, it was decided to be adapted into a TV animation scheduled for January 2023.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... is an upgraded version of the prequel game of the same name, regarded as a distant past story set in the Automata world. The game defined the characteristic aspect of the NieR series, which is the switching between various game genres during gameplay, in addition to the main RPG-based mechanics. There are many references and connections to the destroyed world of NieR Automata in NieR Replicant, as well as a new ending and exclusive content, as opposed to the original NieR that was released in 2010.

The upcoming NieR Automata TV anime, named "NieR: Automata Ver1.1a" recently received a new trailer and key visual for Adam and Eve, two sentient machine lifeforms who stand in the way of the main characters, 2B and 9S. Unlike other machines, they have appearances very similar to androids and a sense of familial connection. Adam will be voiced by Daisuke Namikawa (Yu Narukami in Persona 4, Ulquiorra Cifer in Bleach, Hisoka Morow in Hunter × Hunter) and Eve will be voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Ban in The Seven Deadly Sins). The anime was hinted by the original creator Yoko Taro to include new content never seen before in related video games or stage plays.
