Square Enix debuted new gameplay of the NieR Replicant remaster at The Game Awards 2020, showing some interesting battle gameplay. You can clearly tell the battle system was made to be closer to NieR Automata, as previously explained by the staff in a Famitsu interview we translated. Specifically, Yoko Taro, Yosuke Saito and Toylogic wished to change it. Takahisa Taura (PlatinumGames and NieR:Automata Senior Game Designer) is supervising the battle and action parts of NieR Replicant ver 1.22. And it shows.

The new NieR Replicant ver 1.22 gameplay from The Game Awards 2020 features both battles against small fries and struggles against tenacious bosses. As usual with NieR, a lot of the gameplay feels like a Shmup game unfolding in front of your eyes. With the easily recognizable red spheres patterns to avoid.
