Square Enix debuted new gameplay of the NieR Replicant remaster at The Game Awards 2020, showing some interesting battle gameplay. You can clearly tell the battle system was made to be closer to NieR Automata, as previously explained by the staff in a Famitsu interview we translated. Specifically, Yoko Taro, Yosuke Saito and Toylogic wished to change it. Takahisa Taura (PlatinumGames and NieR:Automata Senior Game Designer) is supervising the battle and action parts of NieR Replicant ver 1.22. And it shows.

The new NieR Replicant ver 1.22 gameplay from The Game Awards 2020 features both battles against small fries and struggles against tenacious bosses. As usual with NieR, a lot of the gameplay feels like a Shmup game unfolding in front of your eyes. With the easily recognizable red spheres patterns to avoid.

NieR Replicant Ver 1.22 New Gameplay From The Game Awards

NieR Replicant ver 1.22 is based on the Japanese version of NieR, with the young protagonist trying to save his sister Yonah. All the characters got brand new designs by Akihiko Yoshida as well. The OST has been enhanced. And all the seiyuu (Japanese cast) are back as well to reprise their roles. You can read additional details on all this with our coverage from Tokyo Game Show 2020, including the new beautiful artworks by Akihiko Yoshida.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… will be launching on April 22 in Japan and April 24, 2021, worldwide, on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.

A brand new NieR mobile RPG, NieR Reincarnation, is also in the works and has been announced in North America and Europe.
