Cyberpunk, as a genre, is focused on the stories set in a high-tech dystopia. One where society and technology have advanced at an extremely rapid pace, but the same human problems of the past era, our era, are still very much there. Cyberpunk constantly grapples with the meaning of humanity and the issues of equality and racism. It's about massive social divides and the people that fall through those cracks. This is why it's so appropriate that CD Projekt Red has postponed Night City Wire, a live stream meant to share more information about their upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077.Announced in a Twitter post from the game's account, the date of Night City Wire has been shifted to later this month, from June 11 to June 25. CD Projekt Red added that it is still excited to share more about Cyberpunk 2077, "but more important discussions are happening right now and we want them to be heard." The company ended its Tweet with a recent rallying cry: "Black Lives Matter."

This postponement comes as a result of the ongoing protests against police brutality happening not just in America, but around the world. Marches against police violence began after the March 25 killing of George Floyd by Police Officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Chauvin has since been arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

CD Projekt Red is in good company with its decision to postpone a major event. On June 1, Sony postponed its long-awaited PS5 event, to "allow more important voices to be heard." Likewise, EA decided to hold off on airing a commercial for its upcoming title, Madden NFL 20.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on September 17, 2020.
