Yesterday, Kentucky-based developer Screaming Villains announced that Night Trap – 25th Anniversary Edition is set to release on PS4 and PC on August 15th, with a physical release for the former coming four days earlier on August 11th. Meanwhile, the Xbox One version is said to be coming “soon.”
For those that don’t know: Night Trap was an interactive movie video game (another way of saying live-action) developed by Digital Pictures that hit back in 1992 on the Sega/Mega CD.
The game’s plot centers around a group of young women having a type of sleep-over party and who are being targeted by Augers, vampiric beings who want to snack on the women’s blood.
Gameplay consists of switching between various hidden camera in the house to activate traps to capture and stop Augers and thus prevent any harm coming to the group of women.
As you may remember, Night Trap is rather famous (or infamous perhaps) for stirring up quite the controversy. Unlike now, back in the 90’s video games were much more controversial, specifically games with mature content. The controversy around the content of the game eventually led to an outcry big enough that it was withdrawn from the market, and ultimately the game was a big player in causing the creation of the ESRB, who are the organization who rate yours games to this day.
