Sabotage announced that their retro action platformer The Messenger will be headed to the Nintendo Switch along with the PC release in 2018.

Revealed earlier this year, The Messenger combines 8 and 16-bit console generations where the player will fight their way through hordes of demon enemies to deliver a sacred scroll to their clan. However, that's easier said than done because during gameplay, it's possible to access multiple timelines that are represented in 8 and 16-bit graphics.

Over the course of the game, players will learn new moves and find new ways of combatting enemies and getting through obstacles. There are secret rooms and insane villains to stumble across the entire campaign story.

Additionally, there are upgrades available to the player over the course of the game that will add to the skills and mobility of the ninja character. This is all played over a soundtrack by chiptune composer Rainbowdragoneyes, made in Famitracker.

Developer Sabotage is also collaborating to develop the upcoming Oddworld: Soulstorm. However, there's very little information floating around about the game other than it's a brand new Oddworld title.

You can check out the Nintendo Switch announcement trailer below for The Messager, showing gameplay and plenty of nostalgia-inducing retro platforming.
