Nintendo has announced that production for the Wii U is scheduled to end soon.

The news comes via Nintendo's official Japanese site, where text reads , 近日生産終了予定 (kinjitsu seisan shuuryou yotei), which means, “Production is scheduled to end soon.”

Important to note: this was one of Nintendo’s Japanese sites, and the announcement reads “within Japan.” There has been no word yet as to how this impacts the Wii U in other regions.

As you may remember last week Eurogamer reported that multiple sources confirmed to the site that the final Wii U would be wrapping up production within November. This was followed up by Nintendo denying the report to a Japanese news site, stating, “There is no change to our continuing [Wii U] production," and that the report "was not true."

Further details were not divulged. We will be sure to update this post as they come out.

[UPDATE] A spokesperson for Nintendo has told Game Informer that Wii U shipments to North American retailers for this financial year has ended. The spokesperson added that Wii U production will end in the "near future" for Japan, though a specific time was not divulged.
