According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Nintendo plans to undergo reorganization that will bring their handheld and console hardware divisions together under one roof. The goal is to use the combined division to make future plans in regards to creating hardware that can compete against today’s growing market of smartphones and tablets.

The Unified Development Headquarters will be located near Nintendo’s offices in Kyoto and will see the the employees from both divisions working together starting February 16th. Nintendo is working to create symmetry between their handheld and console development, which the company has been known for.

It will be interesting to see what ideas the unified division comes up with in regards to the next console cycles and how they will leverage connectivity between the 3DS and the Wii U.
