Tragic news have just been revealed by Nintendo: CEO and President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11th at the age of 55.

The official cause of death was stated to be a “bile duct growth.”

As a result of his death the two Representive Directors, Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto, will remain at the head of the company.

Iwata-san joined HAL laboratory after graduating, and became Coordinator Software Production in 1983, working on games like Earthbound and helping with several Nintendo games. In 2002, he was appointed as CEO of Nintendo, and has been at the helm since.

Here at DualShockers, we would like to join the rest of the industry and the gaming community in extending our condolences to Iwata-san’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be missed.

A quote from the legendary gaming figure, to best remember him by:

On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.
