Nintendo Confirms That Some Amiibo Figures Will be Discontinued After “Initial Shipment”

on December 8, 2014 10:52 PM

Nintendo confirmed today that some of the wildly popular Amiibo figurines will be discontinued after their initial launch. Other core Amiibo figures, such as Mario, Peach Link and the like will continue to be produced.

According to the full statement:

We will aim for certain amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link. Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.

While Nintendo will not comment on which Amiibos will see the axe, three figurines (Marth, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager) have already become increasingly difficult to find both in physical and online retailers, and incredibly overpriced in the remaining few ones. Hopefully Nintendo reconsiders this decision, as buyers were never given advanced notice concerning the availability of these figurines.
