Despite the system releasing over six years ago, the Nintendo 3DS has proven to be a system with legs thanks to a sturdy lineup of games throughout this year and next, with Nintendo having showcased several of the new games arriving on the portable system.

During the company's latest Direct, Nintendo unveiled a bevvy of new 3DS games coming to the system throughout the rest of this year and through 2018, with the mix including many faces both new and old to the system.

In the direct, Nintendo highlighted several of the 3DS' upcoming titles including Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions (which launches on October 6th, 2017), and featured some of the amiibo functionality that will be present in the title when it launches with both the new Goomba and Koopa Troopa amiibo, and the existing Boo amiibo figurine.

After that, Nintendo also showed footage of the upcoming Yokai-Watch 2: Psychic Specters, which acts as the "ultimate version" of last year's pair of sequels that incorporates some added new features, while those with either of the previous sequel titles can get some added new content in a free update on September 14th, or transfer to Psychic Specters, which releases on September 29th, 2017.

The Nintendo Direct also provided some new footage of Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy, which takes on the story of Professor Layton's daughter Katrielle as she embarks on a new mystery to solve. The title will arrive on October 6th, 2017, and those playing on the 3DS will be able to unlock an exclusive outfit for Flora in-game.

Also included in the mix were a new 3DS demo for Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth, which can now be downloaded free for Nintendo 3DS from the eShop ahead of the game's arrival on the system this fall. Meanwhile, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux will also arrive for the system in early 2018, with the game to include new story content, additional endings, enhanced graphics, and a new dungeon for players to explore.
