A new post from Miiverse by Nintendo official Julie reveals that the company is currently looking into the origins of the debilitating Wii U error code that can erase system data and even brick the console:

A small percentage of consumers playing Wii U may experience error codes (160-0103 and 160-1710) that could affect the ability of the system to function properly. We are investigating this issue now. Until the solution is available, anyone that experiences these error codes can call the Nintendo contact center at 1-800-255-3700 for help and repair.

The error was originally thought to be caused by physical versions of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U but recent findings revealed that it is actually a system error.
