Nintendo Announces a New Switch Model With Improved Battery

A new Nintendo Switch model with a better battery life has been unveiled.

Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo has announced an updated version of the original Nintendo Switch.

The new model, titled HAC-001, features a new battery life that lasts two hours longer than the original Switch, making the battery last between 4.5 to 9 hours. The current Switch battery lasts 2.5 to 6.5 hours and the newly announced Switch Lite lasts between 3 to 7 hours.

As it’s listed on Nintendo’s Switch Product page, players can play something like Breath of the Wild for 5.5 hours on the updated Switch model. It hasn’t been officially revealed as to how Nintendo improved the system’s battery life, but it could be due to updating the memory or adding a new chip.

News of this new model makes sense thanks to recent news regarding Nintendo’s plans to upgrade the console’s storage and CPU. While this isn’t the long-awaited Switch Pro everyone wants, it’s a step in the right direction.

Since its launch in March 2017, the Switch has sold 34 million units worldwide. With new games such as Pokemon Sword and Shield, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening coming this year, those sales number will do nothing but grow.

The updated Switch model is expected to launch sometime in August and in Europe in early September. Additionally, the newly announced Nintendo Switch Lite launches worldwide on September 20 for $200. In addition to 3-7 hours of battery life, it’ll have a smaller 5.5-inch screen, come without a dock for the TV, and it’ll be available in yellow, gray, and turquoise colors.

If any new updates get revealed about the new Switch models, we’ll be sure to let you know.
