After revealing a few months back that worldwide sales for the Switch had passed 36 million, Nintendo today revealed that North America alone has now sold 15 million units of the platform.

The news comes about a little over a month after the launch of the Switch Lite, Nintendo's new, $200 model of the system that only works in handheld mode. This 15 million unit total is made up of both sales of the standard Switch mode and the new Lite version. Nintendo also notes that sales in the region this year are up by 20% year to date, at least through September.

"As we enter our third holiday season, Nintendo Switch is creating smiles and enjoying broad appeal, with more than 15 million consumers across North America playing their favorite games whenever and wherever they like," said Doug Bowser, current president of Nintendo of America.

Nintendo also stated today that the Switch platform has seen 14 different games pass the 1 million sales threshold, which is quite the feat. As of now, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still the console's best-selling game, with Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate following closely behind.

With a massive lineup of games still slated to release between now and the end of the year (Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokemon Sword and Shield), the Switch is still set up to reach new heights before 2019 wraps up. We'll have to see how the platform continues to do as we enter the final months of the year.
