The bigwigs of storage and hard drives, Western Digital, have partnered up with Nintendo to license branded SanDisk microSDXC memory cards for the Switch.

Beginning just ahead of the holiday season, in October, the Nintendo branded 64 GB and 128 GB cards which feature Link and Mario on the packaging, will be available in select retailers and on eShops. To all the parents and the like out there who are unsure of what to purchase exactly, don't worry. The new cards will be strategically placed and will clearly indicate the Switch and SanDisk logos.

It's also important to note that a microSD card will be needed for specific Switch games. NBA 2k18 which is coming soon, is a prime example, titles like this can require a large amount of storage for content and the SD card will be a requirement.

In a press release, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Tom Prata said:

"These new Nintendo-licensed memory cards provide significant additional storage for digital content, and in many retail locations they will be conveniently displayed alongside Nintendo Switch games and accessories."

Since the launch of the Switch, more developers and publishers are jumping on the bandwagon to add their titles to the console. So providing the ability to increase storage means more content and games in general can be experienced in full. Partnering up with Western Digital is a smart move on Nintendo's end, they're a highly trusted storage provider.

Client Solutions at Western Digital, Vice President of Product Marketing, Sven Rathjen said:

"As more and more amazing games and related content become available for download on Nintendo Switch, our licensed memory cards allow users to quickly and easily expand their storage,"

“Nintendo Switch has generated tremendous momentum, and we are thrilled to partner with Nintendo to offer consumers a trusted card for their system.”
