The original Nioh was already a game well-known for its staggering difficulty when it released in 2017, and its anticipated sequel Nioh 2 only upped the ante even more. Released this past March, Nioh 2 brought players an even more demanding masocore experience to rival the Souls series, and players can expect to see a lot more from the game later this year through new DLC expansions.Team Ninja officially detailed that since its release, Nioh 2 has sold over 1 million copies worldwide. In celebration of the sales milestone, Team Ninja has released a new update that incorporates some brand new features and content into the game to keep players coming back to it, alongside new details of future DLC plans.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Team Ninja creative director Tom Lee detailed that the latest update for Nioh 2 will add Photo Mode into the game, along with a new set of missions. The Photo Mode, as Lee explains is "more than a simple add-on," will allow players to capture in-game screenshots with a variety of different tools and settings. This includes the ability to tweak the camera settings for image exposure, gradation, lightning adjustments, and more alongside a set of different filters that players can add onto their photos. Alongside the Photo Mode, the new update will also include nine Sub-Missions/Twilight Missions, which will bring players some intense new challenges.

Lee also detailed that three DLC expansions are planned for Nioh 2 over "the next several months," which will be "sizable & badass" new additions for players to experience. As detailed in the blog post, the new expansions will include "new storylines, new yokai, ferocious new bosses, Guardian Spirits, new skills, fresh armor," and seemingly a new weapon that "alters the performance of skills outside of set stances." The expansions will also introduce new difficulty levels and endgame content for players to continue their adventures at a more challenging level.

According to Lee, the first of the DLC expansions is called "The Tengu's Disciple" and will release on July 30, 2020. No release dates or windows were confirmed just yet for the other two DLC packs, but Team Ninja shared a few screenshots to tide fans over until they are released.

Nioh 2 is available now on PS4, and its first DLC expansion pack will be arriving in July. For a closer look at what to expect, you can check out the screenshots and concept art below:
