NIS To Bring Atelier Rorona To the West

Yes, its another news post about another obscure, niche RPG.  Gotta love ’em!  Nippon Ichi Software has confirmed, through the European PlayStation Blog, that they will be localizing Gust-developed PS3 RPG Atelier Roronainto English and French, for the European market, to be released sometime in 2010.  Sure, they didn’t say anything about bringing it to North America, per se, but its a pretty safe bet to say that the the game will likely grace our shores sometime in the future, as well, considering they’re going through the process of localizing it into English.

The game is a bit unique in that it merges basic turn-based battles with visual novel style storytelling as you progress through each individual section of the game.  Each section is broken down into three-month periods of in-game time and you must complete the objective of that section before time is up or its game over.  In fact, that aspect of the title sounds very similar to the time-based game play in the Persona games, although on a smaller, more frequent scale.  It also sports lush, cell-shaded visuals, which almost always work great in RPGs.  I’m hoping Atelier Rorona does get released here in North America, it’ll add some much-needed RPG love for the PS3.
