Since its initial reveal back in 2013, the ambitious space exploration title No Man’s Sky has been one of the most highly-anticipated titles of the near future, and now that future is even nearer as the final release date of the game has been confirmed, and pre-orders are now open to begin your journey.
Hello Games managing director Sean Murray revealed in a new post on the PlayStation Blog that No Man’s Sky will officially release for PS4 and PC in the USA on June 21st, 2016, followed by a release for Europe one day later on June 22nd, 2016.
Murray also explained other details in the post that No Man’s Sky will be available both digitally and at retail for $59.99, and also explaining that the full retail price “gives us the best chance possible to keep supporting the game for free after it is released.” Murray stated that No Man’s Sky “will launch as a complete game in June, but there’s a lot we’d like to add post-launch, if we can.”
In addition to the retail and digital release of the title, the European PlayStation Blog also confirmed a limited edition of the game including a copy of the title, a special Steelbook case, a dynamic PS4 theme inspired by the game, a 48-page artbook, and an exclusive comic book illustrated by Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), written by James Swallow (Mass Effect, Star Wars, Deus Ex), and with cover art by Angus McKie that expands on the lore of the game.
The Limited Edition will also include a “Starter Kit” containing several in-game items and boosts, such as a Photonix Core ship boost, Trader Charisma, Bonus Resources, a Boltcaster SM, and a new Weapons Blueprint. The Limited Edition is available for both the US and Europe, with retailers such as Best Buy and GameStop now listing it at $79.99.
On the PC end, Hello Games has also partnered with online retailer iam8bit to offer the “Explorer’s Edition” for the PC version of the game for $149.99 that includes various extras and a particularly cool collectible item.
The Explorer’s Edition will be a limited run of 10,000 copies including the game, a collector’s Traveller Pin, and a hand-painted, cast metal replica of one of the game’s ships that also includes various stickers and decals to customize to your liking. This edition also comes with various backdrops to put behind the ship, a collector’s box, and a “mystery item” not yet revealed until launch.
