No Man's Sky is about to get a whole lot scarier. The latest Desolation update brings haunted derelict ships to the award-winning space sim. Players can explore their spooky remains and discover what's been left behind. If you were looking to inject a little of the Alien franchise into your No Man's Sky gameplay, this update is for you. Give it a look below.

The Desolation update is sizable. Obviously, the big-ticket item is the new derelicts. Players will find them in the open universe, though you can also purchase coordinates from scrap dealers. These procedurally-generated interiors won't make getting your plunder easy though. Inside you'll be met by security AI gone haywire and deadly alien infestations.

That said, for braving the dangers of the new shipwrecks, you'll get some neat rewards. Of course, the salvage is probably the most obvious one, but each ship also has its own story to tell through ship logs and the like. It's a neat touch that should make each ship fun to fully explore.

The wrecks aren't the only reason to hop back in though. The Desolation update also adds several other improvements to No Man's Sky. There are visual improvements galore, better freighter customization, and much more. You can check the official patch notes for a full rundown.

Importantly, the team at Hello Games has also made improvements to combat. That's going to come in handy when you're attacked by the hordes of aliens infesting those derelicts.

No Man's Sky is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Get out there and start exploring.
