Hello Games Founder Says There is Interest in Bringing No Man's Sky to Switch

Sean Murray says that while the team at Hello Games is focused on No Man's Sky's next major update right now, there does seem to be interest in the Switch.

August 9, 2019

No Man’s Sky originally launched on PS4 and PC, but it later came to the Xbox One platform last year. That means the only noticeable platform it still has yet to drop on would be that of the Nintendo Switch. While there are no plans to currently bring No Man’s Sky to Switch though, it sounds like something that Hello Games might be looking into.

In a conversation with Game Informer, Hello Games’ co-founder Sean Murray was asked about the possibility of one day bringing No Man’s Sky to Switch and it wasn’t an idea that he shot down. “It’s super interesting. I love the Switch,” Murray stated. “We’re obviously very focused on what we’re doing right now, but we have done a lot of work for PSVR to optimize the game. So I’d be interested to see what’s possible. But at the moment, we’re just very focused on what we’re doing right now.”

If you’re unaware of what Murray is referring to, No Man’s Sky’s next update, called Beyond, drops next week and will make the game compatible with PSVR. To get it working on that platform though, clearly, the team has had to scale back the game to a certain degree. As such, Murray seems to think that the work they’ve already done to get No Man’s Sky to work on VR could also be applicable when it comes to scaling the game back to get it to work on Switch.

While Hello Games has nothing more to say about the possibility of the Switch right now, perhaps it’s something they’ll spend more time dwelling on in the future once Beyond has released. Personally, I think No Man’s Sky would be a great fit on the handheld hybrid platform, and I’m sure I’m not alone.

For now, No Man’s Sky is out on PS4, PC, and Xbox One. The Beyond update is set to arrive for free next week on August 14 for all platforms.
