No More DS Lites at GameStop

I’ve complained before that the number of samey-looking Nintendo handhelds being crammed into the same display case at retail was becoming something of a problem. Well, it looks like GameStop is taking the first step towards mitigating that problem: phasing out the oldest SKU in that case entirely. An internal memo from the brick-and-mortar giant leaked to Engaget yesterday, revealing that stores are currently being instructed not replenish supplies of their basic DS Lite models (Black, Metallic Rose, and Crimson). Whether that’s indicative of a greater trend in retail remains to be seen, but this is certainly the first nail in the coffin for the plucky little handheld. Of course, this doesn’t effect the DSi and DSi XL, which will continue to be sold as normal. Still, though, I might miss the ol’ Lite. It had a good run.
