August 7 is the birthday of Nobara Kugisaki from Jujutsu Kaisen, and fans in Japan have already been celebrating, seeing it's long past midnight on JST. Mappa also published an official artwork of all the characters wishing Kugisaki a happy birthday.

Nobara Kugisaki birthday - How fans celebrate their favorite characters in Japan

Whenever a character's birthday happens, Japanese fans will usually start a "birthday festival tag", with the character's name and year. That's under this tag that they'll share fanart, cosplay, and tons of love for the character. Nowadays, many non-Japanse fans will use Japanese tags too.

Kugisaki is one of the most iconic Jujutsu characters seeing she's part of the original group of protagonists. Personally, I've always liked her as she reminds me of Yukino Miyazawa from Kare Kano. Nobara Kugisaki is voiced by Asami Seto, who's known for voicing among others:

  • Shion Kamiya in the original Aikatsu
  • Shoko Sashinami in Valvrave the Liberator
  • Mirage Farina Jenius in Macross Delta
  • Raphtalia in Shield Hero
  • Kasane Randall in Scarlet Nexus
  • Asuka Takizawa/Cure Flamingo in Tropical Rouge Pretty Cure

Character birthdays are always awesome to see unfold. As when you're an otaku, it's always heartwarming to see so many different people loving the same character you do. You'll find tons of different fanart, cosplay, impressions of Kugisaki and more under the tags #釘崎野薔薇生誕祭2021 #釘崎野薔薇誕生祭2021.

Keep in mind that if you look up Japanese tags, you're bound to see NSFW stuff too so check at your own risk. Moreover, remember you should never save and repost fanart or cosplay. If you liked something, just retweet it. Lastly, I don't think anyone reading this is stupid enough to do that, but don't go harassing people because they support a ship you don't like or something. All of this is basic knowledge you should keep in mind if you've never interacted with Japanese fandoms. Anyways, we've included some of the tweets shared by fans below.

It's also important to note many Japanese fans actually don't use tags either. The best thing to do when you have some free time is to look up the character's name and see what you can dig. It's always best to directly follow artists and cosplayers part of the fandom and see what they share too.
