Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division revealed their game The Outer Worlds at The Game Awards today with a trailer showing off the new IP.

This is the newest single-player RPG from Obsidian set in a brand new universe. It is also the first first-person shooter from Obsidian, who have been more known for their isometric RPGs than first person shooters.

The Outer Worlds seems to combine some of the elements of Borderlands, such as the humor and RPG-shooter mix in gameplay. The trailer does acknowledge the other element Obsidian is known for: decision making.

Obsidian and Private Division are aiming to release The Outer Worlds sometime in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. As this game was in development before Obsidian was purchased by Microsoft it will still be coming to Sony's platform upon release. Obsidian teased this announcement with a countdown site earlier this week.

Obsidian Entertainment is best known for their work on RPGs such as Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, and more recently the Pillars of Eternity series. Private Division is a new publisher and subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive that focuses more on smaller and independent studios than large third parties such as Firaxis and Gearbox. It was formed in late 2017 and is currently working with Squad (developers of Kerbal Space Program), Obsidian Entertainment, V1 Interactive (on a first person shooter), The Outsiders (on Project Wight), and Panache Digital Games for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey which also was featured during The Game Awards with a gameplay trailer.
