Octopath Traveler 2 has received yet another trailer ahead of its February release, giving players a peek into the updated job system and support skills, as well as two new characters, Throne Anguis and Temenos Minstral.

Throne Anguis is a thief whose tale begins in the Brightlands, where he is a member of a guild titled Blacksnakes. Each character in Octopath Traveler 2 has different path actions to interact with NPCs and uncover items. They are divided into two categories, daytime patch actions and nighttime patch actions, based on the times that players can utilize them during the day. Throne's daytime patch action allows him to steal townspeople's belongings. His second patch action, Ambush, knocks someone unconscious to move forward when someone blocks his way.

Throne's primary talent, Blessing of Darkness, increases the physical attack, elemental attack, and speed of his allies during battles at night. He also has a latent power called Leave No Trace, which allows Throne to act twice in a row in order to dole out increased damage. As for Temenos Mistral, who is a cleric in the region of Crestlands, he will encounter such characters as Pontiff Jörg and Crick that will add to his story along the way. Temenos' daytime patch action allows him to guide someone to lead them around, or summon them to aid during combat. His second patch action, Coerce, can only be used at night to obtain information from someone by breaking them in the battle.

Temenos' Moonlight Judgement talent blinds enemies, decreasing their accuracy and safeguards. Moreover, it lowers enemies' physical and elemental defense, meaning his team can take the upper hand in combat. Lastly, Temenos can use his Judgement talent when his power gauge is full, decreasing enemy shield points on each attack.

Octopath Traveler 2 also introduces a secondary job system, allowing players to combine this with their primary job to access new weapons and skills in combat. The development team explained the upgraded job system with an example, saying that the Dancer can also use swords and polearms if they choose the Warrior as the second job. Players can obtain their second job by fulfilling the guild's request, which can be found in towns.

Square Enix's turn-based JRPG Octopath Traveler 2 will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on February 24, 2023.
