Today Square Enix announced on the official Twitter account that Octopath Traveler passed a relevant shipments milestone.

To be more precise, the game passed a million between shipments and digital downloads. The tweet, that you can see below, thanks players for their support.

While the marketing support from Nintendo certainly helped, this is a massively impressive achievement for a game like Octopath Traveler that is definitely more niche than most.

Square Enix has been trying to release retro-style JRPGs for a while now, but they weren’t really met with overwhelming success. Octopath Traveler clicked with the audience, and hopefully will lead to further games in this vein.

The game also had reported shortages in the stores, which means that there definitely is a hunger for this kind of title.

The game is currently available exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
