Oculus Cancels Preorders of Those Selling Their Units on eBay

Those looking to make money of their Oculus Rift preorders may have trouble, as Oculus begins to crack down on eBay listings.

A listing for a pre-ordered Oculus Rift unit asking for £499 – up from $350 – was spotted by Oculus fans and posted on the company’s forum. Other listings were also found, including one unit which was set to be among the first delivered going for $5000.

Oculus launched an investigation into the IDs of the people behind the listings, and promptly cancelled the pre-orders. Shortly after, several of the eBay listings were taken down.

Oculus thanked the community for bringing the listings to their attention, noting that selling the kits for a profit went against the idea of getting tools into the hands of developers.

Our community is awesome! Thank you for helping us make sure that we are getting kits into the hands of devs and shutting down profiteers.
