Oculus announced this week that it is offering an early version of its latest software for their VR headset the Oculus Rift.

According to the manufacturer, the Rift Core 2.0 beta offers new features that help redefine virtual reality as a whole; one of these new features is "Dash," which allows you to use any installed applications as well as your Windows desktop on your PC while using your VR headset. Mundane tasks you tend to do on your PC like surfing the web or watching YouTube videos can now be done on your Oculus Rift.

The other significant feature introduces in Rift Core 2.0 Beta is "Home," a new feature (as well as highly requested) that was rebuilt from scratch. Home allows Rift owners to customize their space to their liking. Several highlights offered in Home include interactive objects and embellishing collectibles that will help make your area unique.

Currently, Rift Core 2.0 beta is now available to download; to access it, gamers will have to opt into the Public Test Channel via the Oculus Desktop app. On top of that, last October, the company announced that the Rift & Touch controller bundle was getting a permanent price drop to $399.99. 

In other, VR news, yesterday Crystal Dynamics, Nixxes Software, and Square Enix announced that they have released the Blood Ties expansion for Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC and included VR support for both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets.
