If you’re a fan of video game books that detail artwork, detailed lore surrounding the game’s world, and concept art, then a new book has hit the shelves. Oddworld: Abe’s Origins is a book featuring 288-pages of content surrounding the Oddworld universe from the creators Oddworld Inhabitants.

The book, created by Indie by Design, was successfully kickstarted back in 2018 and hit 115% of funds after less than 48 hours. Now, the book is complete and is now available to purchase. It’s also officially licensed and endorsed by Oddworld Inhabitants.

Oddworld: Abe's Origins

It does have a focus on Abe, the protagonist from Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, but also delves into other past titles: Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty. There is also content surrounding the upcoming Oddworld: Soulstorm and even unreleased Oddworld Inhabitants titles.

Within Oddworld: Abe’s Origins is a 16,000-word interview with Lorne Lanning, president of Oddworld Inhabitants. The interview has been constructed from over 8 hours of new interviews that were exclusively run for the creation of Oddworld: Abe’s Origins.

The book is a hardcover, with an embossed and gold foil cover logo as well as spine text. It features information and essays on not only the species that reside in the universe of the games but also the lands and designs. There are logo concepts for games that never made the final stages, character designs, landscape designs, and more.

Those wanting to grab hold of the book can do so over on the official Indie by Design website. The images in this post are promotional images from the book and look wonderful. As someone who grew up enjoying the Oddworld universe, I still find the characters, even to this day, to be incredibly original and creepy, while at the same time being somewhat mesmerizing?

Oddworld Inhabitants are to be bringing their Oddworld games to the Switch this year, with Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD landing tomorrow. We have a review on the game also being published tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled!
