The day has come my friends. Today, developer V7 Entertainment announced its new game Old Time Hockey, a game that harkens back to the glory days of old-school arcade hockey of yesteryear. Featuring 70's afros, no helmets, dirty hits, bench-clearing brawls, goalie fights, ref abuse, and stick fights, Old Time Hockey is set to bring back aggressive hockey when it releases sometime in early 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

According to V7 Entertainment Director Karthik Venkateshan, Old Time Hockey is inspired by classic arcade hockey games and sports titles like NHL 94 and Blades of Steel, as well as games like NBA Jam and Tecmo Bowl. All stellar games to draw inspiration from if you ask me.

Director Karthik Venkateshan goes on to say:

"We wanted to recreate that old familiar experience of playing these games on the couch with friends."

Old Time Hockey features 5-on-5 arcade style hockey gameplay where players "will their opponents to submit through rough and tumble aggressive hitting and fighting." It also features various control schemes, allowing players to choose between arcade 2-button controls to something that more resembles modern controls. In addition to all of this, it also features  a unique “Beer Mode” control scheme that allows players to play with one hand and hold their drink in the other. Yeah. You read that right. That's as awesome as it sounds.

In additon, Old Time Hockey will also come packing a unique Story Mode, which according to the developer is soemthing that has never been seen in a hockey video game before.

Director Karthik Venkateshan adds:

“We also developed a hilarious story mode to wrap all the hijinks together. It's a daring concept to incorporate narrative into a sports game but we think players will get a kick out of it."

Story Mode is set sometime in the late 1970's, admist a poor ecomnic cilmate and the during the peak of the disco era (RIP) in the United Sates, and underscores the arduous story of a struggiling team in a Bush Hockey League.

An exact release was not revealed, nor a price point. However, a new trailer and screenshots were. You can check both forms of media out below:
