Amidst the craziness of Devolver Digital's usual presentation antics was a retro style game dripping in tension and a solemn atmospheric presence, alongside tons of action and blood. Olija may be simple in its presentation and graphical style but the silent yet gripping cutscenes are sure to capture your attention.

You can check out the trailer below for both gameplay and story.

The combat looks to be incredibly interesting and unique, as the protagonist Faraday uses his harpoon to pull himself toward enemies as he fells them, creating an uninterrupted chain of kills. This also works well for bosses as players can set up combos by continuously pulling themselves to the enemy.

Olija is a game about Faraday's quest, a man shipwrecked then trapped in the mysterious country of Terraphage. Armed with a legendary harpoon, he and other castaways try to leave this hostile country to return to their homelands.

Through adventurous exploration, narration and razor sharp combat, the player will discover a strange world and its inhabitants, including Olija, an enigmatic lady that Faraday finds himself bound to over time. Inspired by swashbuckling tales and cinematic adventure games, Olija is a story about facing the unknown in adversity.

The title was first revealed back in 2018 during the Day of the Devs 2018 event. Day of the Devs is an annual event hosted by Double Fine and iam8bit made its return on November 11th of that year and included more than 70 unreleased games to play. The event often creates sales that include indie games and the chance to win a VIP ticket.

According to Double Fine President and CEO Tim Schafer: "Day of the Devs is our favorite time of year. You could say it’s a holiday just for indie games, except that we’ve also invited a handful of our favorite AAA games too. For 2018 we’re bringing together the best developers, games and people to make it truly unforgettable so mark your calendars now to avoid missing out on the most epic Sunday of your life."

Olija will be coming to Nintendo Switch and PC later in 2020. You can check out the official site here.
