Actor Oscar Isaac has revealed he is still “hopeful” that the Metal Gear Solid movie will end up being made.

Isaac was cast as Solid Snake in the planned Metal Gear Solid adaptation back in 2020 and has been attached to the project ever since. However, since the announcement that the actor would be playing the lead role, developments in production have been minimal. However, the actor has offered a small reassurance to fans who are excited for the film.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Isaac offered a small update on the progression of the film. “We want it to happen,” he said. “Be excited. What’s the script? What’s the story? What’s the take? [...] But hopeful that comes to fruition because there's so much potential for that. It's an incredible game. It's my favorite.”

Isaac chose to take on the role because he “loves the game” (via GamesRadar). “I love the feeling that the game would give me every time I’d play. It’s just a strangely isolated, mournful, lonely game to play that has these incredible moments of violence and terror, with these weird, psychedelic concepts and villains. But, yes, it’s kind of like psychedelic military horror things that happen” he explained.

He continued, “And the truth is, underneath the whole thing, it’s an anti-war story. So I think those are the elements I really love. And, like I said, I love the feel of playing it, and the big question of: can something like that be transferred – or can you explore those themes in a really interesting way – on film?”

Isaac has taken on a multitude of high-profile roles in recent years, most recently playing Duke Leto Atreides in the recent Dune movie. He also played the titular character in Marvel’s Moon Knight on Disney+.
