Survival horror title Outlast scared the pants of many when it launched last year, and now a new game is in the works, co-founder Phillipe Morin says.

He says that the game will still be survival horror, and will in fact be set in the same world as Outlast, but it will be set outside of the asylum that made up the first game.

We might go back to Mount Massive Asylum one day, but for now we have new ideas and themes we’d like to explore and we think we’re cooking up something special.

When asked, Morin declined to say if Outlast 2 will connect with the first game in any way.

Part of the fun of playing a horror game is the sense of discovery and progressively understanding “wtf” is going on. So, I’d rather not say too much at this point.

Morin also said that at the moment, the game is early on in development, and so its uncertain if Outlast 2 will retain the same hide and seek gameplay of the first game, or if it will also have combat elements.
