New Batch of Terrifying Outlast 2 Screenshots Released Ahead of its Launch This Week

Canada-based developer Red Barrels has released a new batch of nerve-racking Outlast 2 screenshots, ahead of its retail and digital release tomorrow on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Well at least if you’re in North America. If you’re in Europe, you will have to wait a few extra days — until the 28th — to have a series of mini heart attacks.

As you may know, Outlast 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed 2013 survival horror game Outlast. Despite being a sequel, the two games are not related in any meaningful way, aka you don’t need to play the first in order to the play this one.

Outlast 2 was shortly announced after the release of Outlast. The game was originally supposed to launch sometime during Fall 2016, but was delayed to Q1 2017, and then delayed again to Q2 2017, before its current release date was announced.

Much of the sequel is very similar to the first game in regards to how it plays. What’s different though, is that unlike the first game Langermann’s status as a cameraman means he has a far superior camera in his possession, one that allows for clearer footage, audio detection, and a robust zoom option. Langermann also notably wears glasses, which limits the player’s vision if they fall off.

In Outlast 2 you play as Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists that are known to take risks and dig deep to uncover stories no other journalist will dare go near. You and your wife have followed a trail of clues to the Arizona desert, following the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe. What you find is a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.

Outlast 2 will cost $29.99 USD when it launches. Below, you can check out the new batch of screenshots. Additionally, you can check out the game’s launch trailer here.
