Studio Madhouse recently released the final episode of Overlord Season 4, titled "The Witch of the Falling Kingdom." The creators delivered a spectacular finale to an amazing season, leaving the community asking for another chapter of Ainz's journey. Overlord is an incredibly popular anime series with a viewership of millions, so it's no surprise that fans are already looking forward to Season 5.

Overlord's final episode featured an interesting twist by showing Renner's Demon form. The climax almost made the 13th episode a musical, and every frame of Renner's dance sequence got everyone thrilled for the series' future. The episode concluded with a text saying, "The End Begins," so it definitely isn't the end of the road for Overlord anime.

Overlord Will Return With A Sequel Movie

Overlord movie

Last year in May, Studio Madhouse confirmed that Overlord would get a standalone movie. The anime previously received two movies, but unlike the last film adaptations, the upcoming project won't be a recap of the previous events. The third film in the franchise will feature an untold story, covering the events from Volume 12 and 13 (The Holy Kingdom Arc).

After delivering a satisfying finale for Season 4, the studio confirmed on their official Twitter handle that the movie version of the "Holy Kingdom Arc" is in production. However, the creators have yet to announce a release window for the film. Since the movie is already in the works, we can expect more news by the end of this year, with the film getting an official release sometime in 2023.

As it's a movie and not an entire season, it's safe to assume that a time gap of around a year would suffice for the studio to finish the film. But, of course, this is simply a prediction, and we can't be sure about the release date until we hear something official from the creators.

Overlord Season 5 Has Yet To Be Confirmed

For now, Studio Madhouse is focusing solely on the movie, so it's no surprise that season 5 hasn't been announced yet. However, given the insane popularity of Overlord and a rating of 8.32 on My Anime List, an official announcement for the fifth season is a mere formality.

Overlord anime is based on a Light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama. So far, the author has given us a total of 16 volumes. The fourth season of Overlord covered the events from Volumes 10, 11, and 14, and as we previously mentioned, the upcoming movie will adapt Volumes 12 and 13. So, the studio has only two more volumes as source material to give us the fifth season. The anime series usually adapts three volumes in each season, so the studio will possibly wait for the 17th volume before jumping onto another season.

Every sign indicates that we'll get Season 5, but we won't possibly hear anything regarding it until the 17th volume's release. The gap between the third and the fourth season's release was four years. So, every fan hopes for the studio to give us Season 5 a little sooner. But, sadly, the time gap might be the same between the fourth and fifth seasons because there's still no release date for the next volume of the light novel.
