While its now been almost four years, Blizzard Entertainment's first-person shooter Overwatch has continued to build a strong playerbase over the last few years. Thanks to its compelling heroes, new maps and content, and more, Overwatch has continually been updated to change things up, with the Anniversary event now around the corner to celebrate its fourth year with players.Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the Overwatch Anniversary event will officially begin on May 19 to celebrate the game's four-year anniversary. The Anniversary event will run through June 9, giving players three weeks to grab Anniversary-themed skins and other content while playing.

Blizzard shared a few videos giving a glimpse at some of the character skins that players will be able to grab during the course of the Anniversary event, including new skins for Roadhog and Ashe. Players will also have the ability to get skins from past events, while it is also expected that previous limited time game modes will make their return as well in Arcade mode.

In terms of other recent news related to the series, the big question remaining is when we'll hear more about Overwatch 2. The upcoming sequel was officially announced at last year's BlizzCon 2019, but no firm release window or date has been unveiled yet for the game. However, we do know so far that the game will feature PvE elements and will be a "shared" experience with the original game, meaning that new cosmetics, maps, and characters will be shared across both games.

Overwatch is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
