During Activision Blizzard’s financial conference call related to the quarter ended on September 30th, Blizzard President Michael Morhaime gave some color on Overwatch’s performance and on the developer’s plans for the future.

Morhaime explained that Blizzard is “very pleased” with the launch of Overwatch, and they’re happy to see players “reacting favorably” to the new content released so far. He also expressed confidence that Overwatch will reach record launch year revenue for Blizzard games.

We also hear that player engagement is growing. Participation and engagement for the Halloween event in October exceeded that for the Summer Games event in August.”

On top of that Morhaime teased news coming from BlizzCon tomorrow about the developers’ plans for eSports. While it’s too early to discuss plans for 2017, Morhaime mentioned that the two events held in the past months have shown that they have “a great model” for additional content. We should expect more events like Summer Games and Halloween, and additional content that will be detailed at a later date.

Overwatch currently has over twenty million registered players, and was one of the driving factors behind a record quarter for Activision Blizzard.
