Overwatch Team Shanghai Dragons Suffers Heavy Losses to Roster
Professional Overwatch team Shanghai Dragons has taken drastic steps to recalibrate it’s standings by cutting ties with many of its players.
The fast-paced world of eSports can be a ruthless place. The competition is consistently tough, the standard of play is world class, the pressure is immense, and the level of commitment required to compete is unparalleled in any other aspects of gaming. With all of these elements at play, sometimes teams have to go back to the drawing board in order to advance. That seems to be the case for Overwatch pro team Shanghai Dragons.
It was announced on Twitter recently that the Shanghai Dragons would be letting go of a large portion of its team. Those cut from their contracts include Sky, Xushu, Freefeel, Fiveking, Altering, Ado, Rushan, and Daemin. Along with players losing their slots on the team, coaches Kong and Nai8 were also released from their contracts.
The Twitter thread went on to provide well wishes to those cut from the team and to state that all of the players would remain part of the Shanghai Dragons family.
Although the reasoning behind the current wave of cuts has not officially been stated, it’s safe to assume a correlation between this and Shanghai Dragons’ poor performance during the extremely successful Overwatch Inaugural League where they failed to secure a win and finished the season with a score of 0-40. Whether or not these decisions will pay off in next year’s league is yet to be seen.
Overwatch is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you felt inspired by the play from the past couple of days, you can purchase the game right now on Amazon.
