Overwatch’s May Release and Early Access Beta Confirmed by Blizzard; Open Beta Comes May 5

A couple of hours ago, we reported on Blizzard’s Overwatch leaked ad campaign from IGN showing a May 24 release date. Blizzard has now confirmed that date on their website, as well as the May 3, 2016 preorder-exclusive open beta. Further, Blizzard has shared further details on the open beta, including when everyone will have access to it.

As noted in our original story, players that preorder Overwatch on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One will be given early access to an open beta beginning May 3, 2016. The early access will last until May 5, 2016 when everyone will get access to the open beta, regardless of preordering. The full open beta will take place from May 5 to May 9. Additionally, Blizzard has confirmed that (like most games) PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One players will not be able to play with people on other consoles. Further, your progress accrued during the open beta will not carry over to the main game.
