Path of Exile first launched for PC back in 2013. It quickly stood out as a solid secondary option to Blizzard's Diablo III in the action RPG space. Unlike D3, PoE is a free-to-play game, which has led to the game putting out copious amounts of post-launch content to keep the player base healthy. The next expansion is coming next month when Path of Exile: Blight invades the game. Check out the new trailer below.

The biggest addition in Blight is the new tower defense gameplay. The Blight has spread its tendrils across the land and is controlling the world's minions.  When attacked, it uses its mind-control powers to send monsters after you. The monsters will only travel along the Blight's roots, so you can build various towers to stop them in their tracks. It's quite the change of pace from the normal action RPG combat, but it definitely seems like it could be a fun addition for veterans and newcomers.

While defeating the Blight, you'll be rewarded with oils that can be used to enchant your items. There are twelve different oil types and mixing them together will give you new enchantments every time. The expansion also includes significant updates to different archetypes. The Necromancer, Poison Assassin, and Saboteur are all being reworked in a big way. Combine those with all the new items and players are going to have quite a bit to sink their teeth into.

Path of Exile: Blight is coming to PC on September 6. It will then come to PS4 and Xbox One on September 9.
