Pathologic 2 Free, Standalone DLC Announced at PAX West
Pathologic 2 from developer Ice-Pick Lodge is getting a free DLC release later this year that's a remaster of a demo for 2019's weirdest game.
Pathologic 2 is almost assuredly the oddest game you can play in 2019. It is a deeply punishing survival game with a focus on storytelling. Upon release, the overall response was polarizing. Many felt the difficulty was overly oppressive, while others found the difficulty helped tell the story developer Ice-Pick Lodge wanted to deliver. The game did not do super well commercially at launch, but Ice-Pick is doing what they can to give fans the best experience. With that in mind, the team announced a new, free DLC at PAX this week. Check out the trailer for Marble Nest below.
Strangely, Pathologic 2 is not actually a sequel to the first Pathologic. Instead, it’s somewhere between a sequel and a remake. The characters and most of the story are the same, but quite a bit has changed. It gets more confusing as the original game told the tale from three different perspectives. Players could play as the Bachelor, the Haruspex, and the Changling. Pathologic 2 launched with only the Haruspex’s side of the story. The other parts of the story are hopefully forthcoming; however, this DLC is something else entirely.
Marble Nest was actually a demo version of Pathologic 2 released in 2017. This new DLC is a remaster of that demo and tells a standalone story about one of the three main characters. In this case, players will play as the Bachelor in a two-hour, spin-off adventure. Much like the game, the release schedule is equal parts convoluted and fascinating. No one makes games like this, and I can’t help but pay attention to everything Ice-Pick Lodge does even if I didn’t necessarily love their game.
Pathologic 2: Marble Nest will be out later this year on PC and Xbox One.
