Paul Hellquist has left Gearbox Software to join Robot Entertainment, the developers behind the upcoming free-to-play game Orcs Must Die! Unchained.

Hellquist previously served as Creative Director at Gearbox for the development of Borderlands 2, leading an 80 man team on the project according to his LinkedIn profile. Before working at Gearbox, Hellquist also spent nine years working at Irrational Games and was a Lead Designer on the original Bioshock .

"I spent a considerable amount of time with Paul recently, and I was consistently impressed with his breadth of thinking, passion for great design, and humility," wrote Patrick Hudson, CEO of Robot Entertainment in the announcement on Robot Entertainment's website. "His remarkable portfolio of work is clearly well-earned. Paul is a great fit for Robot, and I expect him to have a profound impact on the games we make, starting with Orcs Must Die! Unchained."

As a member of Robot Entertainment, Hellquist will be working in the role of Lead Designer. Considering I have been very impressed by my early impressions of Orcs Must Die! Unchained, seeing the game gain an incredibly talented developer is an encouraging sign for its future as a competitive title.

Orcs Must Die! Unchained is coming to PS4 and PC at a yet to be determined date in 2015.
