Payday 2’s Skill System Makes Combat Even More Strategic

Thanks to a new video from 505 Games and Overkill Software’ game director David Goldfarb, the classes behind Payday 2‘s protagonists gets detailed by archetype, with a look at their abilities and roles.

The Mastermind, for example, is described as “Robert DeNiro in Heat,” a crowd-control guy with leadership skills, and carries a medical bag as his primary “gadget,” to keep his team on their feet. The Enforcer is a “heavy,” a muscular guy, good with weapons, and who has more health than his allies. He carries the ammo bag. The Tactician is the true “gadget” man, and uses drill, sentry turrets, mines and more to help his team get past obstacles and enemies. Finally, the Ghost is your stealthy, sneaky guy, who can pick both traditional locks and electronics with the ECM Jammer.

Every time you level up, you earn a skill point that can be applied to new abilities, or reaching a new tier. This will allow players to buid tailored characters even if following a single class with each role’s skill tree.

Check out the video below for a closer look; Payday 2 is set to release this summer digitally to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC (via Steam). For more on the franchise, check out DualShockers’ Payday news.

Born and raised in video games and "geek culture," Masoud has been bred off of fantasy worlds his entire life and doesn't see anything wrong with that. He loves RPGs (especially TRPGs), sandbox games, the sci-fi genre, dieselpunk, art deco, and anything that allows him to create. Having graduated from John Jay College with a degree in English and a minor in Creative Writing, Masoud hopes to one day pen the same novels, comics, movies, and video games he enjoys escaping into when the real world gets too boring.
