Peaky Blinders Season 5 Recap

So, the story of season 5 starts two years after the incidents of season 4. A group named Angels Of Retribution writes a letter to Arthur, stating that they don't comply with the demands of Peaky Blinders, and neither are they afraid of them. Tommy asks his brother Finn to contact Aberaba, and together they kill a member of Angels Of Retribution.

On October 29th, 1929, the stock market crashed, for which Tommy was already quite sure. Tommy had instructed Michael to withdraw the money before the crash. But Michael didn't withdraw the money in the hope that the stocks would rise, due to which the Shelby family lost good fortune. After this incident, Tommy calls for an urgent family meeting.

After losing money in the stock crash, Shelby's family starts focusing on its illegal business. Tommy is paid fifty thousand pounds for killing a man who is illegally running a sex racket and notifies Ben Younger about all the communist activities in Birmingham.

Tommy notices an effigy hung on a cross and some landmines on his farm. It turns out that the Billy Boys group is behind all this. Tommy receives a call from Ireland, and it turns out that they have captured Michael. An IRA agent informs Tommy that Michael is betraying him and planning something big with his enemies. Tommy instructs them to release Michael, saying that he will handle him on his own.

Polly meets Michael and asks if he is really betraying Tommy, to which he denies. A meeting between Tommy and Mosley is set where Mosley wants Tommy to join his fascist group, which he denies. Tommy and Michael meet and ask him about the incident with IRA. Michael reveals that he met a group named Billy Boys who want to replace Tommy in business.

Billy Boys kill Aberama and Bonny and send a message to Tommy that they want shares in his business else he would be their next target. Aberama thrashes Johnny badly, thinking that he is betraying them, and arrives with him at Tommy's house. But Tommy is confident that Johnny cannot betray him. Tommy instructs Polly to meet Aberama and tell him not to take any step against Billy Boys. But Aberama is already set to clash with Billy Boys and departs for Scotland.

Tommy considers Mosley as a threat, so he asks Ben to send the letter to his seniors so the party can keep a tab on Mosley's activities. Arthur meets Linda's male friend and distorts his face with a blade. Aberama finally reaches Scotland and starts killing Billy Boys members. Arthur divulges Aberama's location, after which Jimmy sets off to kill him. Arthur sets a bomb at the site, and when Billy Boys arrive, the bomb explodes, killing a few members of the group. Jimmy reaches Birmingham, but Tommy offers peace among the two groups.

Brilliant Chang meets Tommy and asks for his help to smuggle opium in return for a handsome amount. Tommy tells Aberama that they need Jimmy's help for the deal, so he should keep his revenge aside for the time being. And in return, he can marry Polly if he wants. Tommy demands cash payment for the deal, but Jimmy is ready to pay by cheque, for which Tommy agrees but only if Mosley takes the guarantee.

On Lizzie's birthday, Tommy organizes a party at its home where he also invites Mosley and manipulates him to sign the papers and act as a guarantor of the deal. Linda reaches the party, and she is mad at Arthur for trouncing her friend. She points a gun at Arthur, and in return, Polly points a gun at Linda and shoots her hand.

Tommy hands over the paper signed by Mosley to Ben that will help him prove that Mosley has his connections with criminals. While Ben is taking those papers to his seniors, he dies in a car blast. On the other hand, Arthur and Aberama reach Chang's place to take opium delivery, but they find out that they were attacked by a group.

Tommy meets his old friend Barney whom he is about to set free from a mental asylum, and takes his help to kill Mosley. With everything going on, Arthur meets Billy and interrogates him, thinking that he is the one leaking all the information. Billy assures his loyalty to them, but Arthur still doubts Billy and tells Finn to keep everything about their business a secret.

Tommy holds a meeting and asks everyone to suggest good ideas to expand their business. Michael suggests that they should grow their business in the US as he has good contacts there. Michael says that he would like to work as a managing director of the company, to which Tommy denies and tells him to leave. Now Tommy explains his plan to everyone regarding the execution of Mosley with the help of Barney. Then it is revealed that Tommy's bartender was the one leaking all the information, after which Tommy kills him.

The series takes a significant turn when it's revealed that Alfie is still alive. Tommy explains his assassination plan to Alfie and asks for his help in killing Mosley. Tommy demands some people who will create chaos in the event and use the distraction to kill Mosley. Finn divulges the assassination plan to Billy, after which Billy makes a phone call.

Now the event starts where Mosley is giving a speech, and Tommy indicates Barney to shoot him. But someone attacks Barney and kills him, and Aberama is also killed by someone. Mosley leaves the stage due to the turmoil, and Tommy cannot understand what's going on. Season 5 ends with Tommy standing in the middle of nowhere, pointing a gun to his head.
