There's a good chance an enhanced version of Persona 5, titled Persona 5 R, will be announced fairly soon. Back in April 2017, Atlus had registered many domain names, including a "P5R.JP" domain. This same domain was updated today, on December 25, possibly signaling an incoming announcement based on previous patters.

Noticed first by publication Persona Central, this is significant because there is a pattern of this happening in the past. For example, Persona Q2Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, Persona 3: Dancing in MoonlightPersona 5: Dancing in Starlight, and Catherine: Full Body all had registered domains that were updated within two weeks of their formal announcement. So of Atlus updates P5R.jp, it is far from out of the question we may see Persona 5 R (or a differently named enhanced version) sooner rather than later.

With that said, when could this title be revealed? The announcement for the game could be made at the end of the "Persona 5 The Animation Dark Sun..." special anime, which will air in Japan on December 30. The first Persona 5 anime adaptation ended long before the end of the game, and this special should cover more of the story.

An enhanced version of Persona 5 with new scenarios and elements was also one of the possible votable options in an old Atlus survey, which asked fans what kind of game they'd like to see next. The Persona series isn't unfamiliar with this practice, as Persona 3 had Persona 3 Portable on PlayStation Portable, and Persona 4 had Persona 4 Golden on PlayStation Vita. Both were enhanced versions of the prior games with new scenarios and elements.

Atlus as a whole regularly releases enhanced ports or remakes of its RPGs. Recent examples include Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology and Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux, both being Nintendo 3DS remakes of Nintendo DS games.

Meanwhile, Persona 5's Joker will make a playable appearance in Catherine: Full Body, another remake, releasing on February 14, 2019, in Japan for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4, and in 2019 in the west.

Joker is also the first DLC character revealed for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, currently available exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Because of this recent announcement, many are those who believe a possible Persona 5 enhanced version would appear on Switch along other platforms. Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime also said in the past that he can't comment on the subject, but also pretty much said he'd like the game to be on Switch. Previous rumors also hinted at a Persona 5 enhanced version.

Unrelated to rumors, you can check out this tiny glitch that is making The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim look like Persona 5.

Persona 5 is currently exclusively available for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
