Persona 5 Scramble New Trailer Reveals Shadow-Like Joker, Story Details

Here's everything we learned through the newest full-length trailer for Persona 5 Scramble, most notably what seems to be Shadow Joker and a new persona user.

Atlus and Koei Tecmo published the second full-length trailer for Persona 5 Scramble The Phantom Strikers. As always with these kinds of Japanese games trailers, it’s full of out-of-context one-liners, but here’s a summary of the trailer with everything we learned anyway. Note that this article contains spoilers, as Persona 5 Scramble is a sequel to the original Persona 5.

The trailer shows us how the Phantom Thieves will get framed again for the new incident with people getting their hearts stolen, mimicking what happened in the original game. Zenkichi Hasegawa, voiced by Shinichiro Miki, the police investigator we’ve seen multiple times now, got removed from the case and ends up collaborating with the Phantom Thieves to find out the truth. What this new trailer teaches us is how Zenkichi will actually accompany the Phantom Thieves in the Jail, the new metaverse of the game. Moreover, one of the final scenes in the trailer show a new persona and a new persona user, highly implying that Zenkichi ends up summoning his persona and becomes playable at some point.

Sophia, the new playable character in the game, got her alternate fighting appearance Sophie by mimicking the Phantom Thieves’ transformations. She can probably do that because she’s an AI.

The trailer also shows us what seems to be a Persona 5 Scramble addition, a Shadow Joker transformation or something similar. We also see Joker and Makoto in a date-like situation with Makoto, in fact, wondering how this totally looks like a date, and how Joker can cook HP and SP recovery items via a “Joker’s Kitchen” menu in the camping car.

The trailer, included below, also features a rock-themed remix of Rivers in the Desert. This is the usual rock remixes Omega Force includes in all their games but it sounds pretty cool seeing the quality of the original song.

Atlus also announced that brand new details on Persona 5 Scramble will be revealed every day from January 9 to January 12, meaning you’ll get three new pieces of info on the game in total, besides the new trailer. Most notably, the next Morgana Travel Guide stream was announced for January 10 and its YouTube page is live. The game will also get new playable demo events in Japan starting January 11.

I personally can’t wait to learn more about Persona 5 Scramble, Shadow Joker and whether Zenkichi is playable or not.

Persona 5 Scramble The Phantom Strikers launches in Japan on February 20, on PS4 and Switch. The game wasn’t announced in the west yet but will definitely come over. Trailers introducing each playable character were revealed: Joker, Sophia/Sophie, Ryuji, Morgana, Anne, Yusuke, Makoto, and Haru.  Futaba sadly didn’t get one as she isn’t playable.
