Pete Hines Explains Why Existing Console Players Wont Be Getting Skyrim: Special Edition for Free

Announced during Bethesda’s E3 2016 press conference, Skyrim: Special Edition would be free for all those on PC that own Skyrim: Legendary Edition.

However, those that play on console will have to pay a full $60 for the game again. This, as you would expect, rustled some jimmies.

Speaking on Twitter, Pete Hines explained that since PC players can just install high resolution and graphical texture mods to the game and get the same results this special edition offers at no extra cost, they would be giving them the game for free as it already exists on PC. This is understandable. As a PC player myself, I found myself thinking “why would I buy this? Skyrim on PC already looks better than this with mods.”

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is headed to PS4, Xbox One and PC October 28th.
